The Proximity Effect
It was just another morning during The In-Between Time.
(That weird time in between Christmas and New Years where you have no idea what day it is or whether you should be lazy or productive.)
On this morning, I was choosing lazy.
I had just finished eating McDonald's breakfast when I opened up Instagram.
The first thing I saw was our good friend Sahil Bloom's Instagram story:
"Today is my 35th birthday, so I'm running 35 miles..."
The timestamp? 4:45am.
As I was scarfing down my second Egg McMuffin,
this dude finished his 35th mile on a fucking indoor treadmill.
Something about that moment snapped me awake.
Enough was enough. I went straight into a 24-hour fast.
That's The Proximity Effect.
Be close to higher standards, and your behavior adjusts automatically.
The fastest way to change your life this year isn’t a new resolution — it’s proximity.
